My Societies Trudi (Gertrude) and Tom

Ok I have others always wondering what our birds look like so I will start with them even though they are the newest addition to our family.  Hope you enjoy pics as I add them.  Warning some poop dropping pics are included as friends needed to see them to help me with a sick bird.  I will try to put what they said so if you have a bird and are wondering what is healthy looking and what is not.

The oldest will be at the bottom.  So click the button and start down there.

We now have babies.  And I have decided I am going to split this site for my birds up.  I want each set to have there own page.  Think it will be so much easier for me to keep track.

So as of 23 November Lola and Zippy have 2 babies.  YEAH.

*** Sugar ***

Born 5 May 2015  Died 1 August 2015

Sugar lost her fight to live sometime while I was asleep.  I should have gotten up every few hours to give her fluids.  She was very much loved.  I miss her so much.   I just hope I did all I could have in the few days that I seen she was sick.  It all went so fast.

1 August 2015   3:00am.... I'm heading to bed.  She is sitting on the edge of her food dish as you can see.

Pic take from above the cage.

These pics were taken at 10:00 pm .  She looks a little better after I gave her some pedialite in a dropper.  She went over and wanted some egg.  Then hopped over to the seeds.  Then back up to the light.  I hope she is getting better.  Maybe the heat & Pedialite I've been giving is working.

The picture on the Right was taken after I removed Sugar from the cage after she passed.  The cage was made for hampsters but turned into a hospital cage.  Nothing has ever died in this cage.  We just bought a bigger cage.  This one was cleaned really well before putting Sugar into it.  I put in clean newspapers and made sure she had everything on bottom level so she would not use up energy walking around.

The picture on the Left Shows how I clipped a light onto the table below the cage to shine into it.  I used a 60 watt bulb.  I wanted to get heat on her as soon as possible.  I also made sure the light only shined on the left side of the cage.  Then I used a towel to cover the cage to shade the Right side so she could get out of the heat if she wanted to.  The bottom of the cage was lined with clean newspapers.  It is very important everything is kept clean just like a hospital room.

Cage is 16 inches wide. Smallest we had available.

Picture # 2 on the Right after eating a few seeds she is worn out.

Picture # 3 on the Left to exhausted to move out of the dish.

Picture # 1 on the Left

Here is Sugar at 6:30p.m. on the 31 st of August 2015.

She moved a tiny bit away from the heat.  The right side of the cage is totally shaded.   This dish is about 6 inches from heat.

Sugar will eat when I set her down into the water in the jar lid.  She walks over eats a few bites then jumps up into the heat and sleeps again.

Moved up a bit.  Light is making it hard to get a good photo

Not sure what is going on but I now have a lump on the side of my neck.  And what is on my beak?  Mom said not to worry it is just food.

29 August 2015   6:00 P.M.

Sugar is seeming a little listless. I hope she is not sick.

Sugar loves it when I hold her and hum a lalaby.  But today she seems to keep leaning into my hand.  She seems depressed.  Her sister has been gone for a week now.

Introducing Zippy our new male Zebra Finch.  Hoping he will mate with Sugar.  Did research on line and watched videos with others mixing Zebra Finches with Society Finches.   Sugar made him sleep in the food bowl for the first 3 nights

Sally

I'm watching  you.  I still can hear my sister and we can talk.  Oh and you did a crappy job of putting papers in my cage.

I'm not sure what is going on, but grandma put me in this cage and said my name is to be Sally and I'm gonna move to a new home.  I really miss my sister.

This is Sugar she is my baby.  I have been holding her little at a time since she was 3 weeks old.  From 3 to 6 weeks they are not afraid of anything.  Great time to start training them.  She now calmly sits in my hand.

Grandma named me Sugar.  This is me and my sister.  Don't know why she hasn't named my sister yet, but that is ok we still love each other.  I'm sitting in the back.  Sis thinks she has to be in front all the time.

Time for a bath - We lost one of our sisters yesterday.  Grandma don't know why but she looked like she had lots of seeds stuck in her throat.  We miss her.

We are getting new adult feathers.  Called Molting

We look awful but don't worry we will be beautiful again soon.

Three Little Girls.

Almost time to move them off on there own.

Time to start a Family

Gerdi has fallen in love with Tom and is trying to get him to notice her instead of always checking himself out in the mirror.

Our Newest Members to our Corbin Family.

2 Beautiful Society Finches  2015

Now to introdue you to Tom my male Finch.  This name might not have been what I wanted, but seems each time I get a male bird to start a new it is Tom.

Meet Gerdi short for Gertrude.  Gosh I hate that name, but every time I look at her that is what pops into my head

Gerdi is shy and not real keen on having her picture taken.

Tom is a little into himself and likes to check out how hot handsome he is.

Getting everything set up in there new home.  Will move cage tomorrow.
